General fluency review may overlook a decimal convention, ambiguous date order or a unit omitted from a generated summary. Those errors can change what a reader is expected to do.
Identify values that must survive
List the numerical and named fields important to the task. Define whether the output should preserve the original representation, convert it or request clarification.
W3C’s locale guidance warns against deriving all regional settings from language preference alone. A language choice does not establish every expected number or date format.
An illustrative regional order summary should not infer the intended date from an ambiguous numeric string when the source context does not resolve it.
Compare meaning as well as characters
Test whether the output preserves the amount and unit, not merely whether a number appears. If conversion is permitted, record the rule and source required for it.
Use domain-qualified reviewers for consequential outputs. A general language assessment does not establish that a technical unit or commercial term remains correct.
Separate unsupported inference from formatting. The system may standardise an unambiguous value while leaving an ambiguous one unresolved.
Add structured validation where appropriate
Compare protected values between source and output using application checks, then review exceptions. Such checks reduce a defined class of errors but do not prove the entire translation is accurate.
Build a protected-value checklist for the specific content type. A commercial quote, maintenance instruction and appointment reminder need different checks. Making those values explicit helps reviewers focus on meaning-changing errors without suggesting that passing a numeric comparison proves every other aspect of the generated translation is correct.
GAT’s enterprise pilot guide encourages evaluation against actual workflows. A multilingual workflow is ready only when the values controlling the work survive alongside the natural-sounding text.
